Ok, tonight was sooooooooooo cool. We ate dinner at Lee and Berna Huebner’s house. Lee Huebner used to be the publisher of the International Herald Tribune and now he’s a professor at Medill.

Walter Wells, executive editor of the International Herald Tribune, spoke. Then after dinner, I got to talk to him individually with some other students. And I got to do my favorite thing: ask questions!!
Wells is very personable, despite being executive editor of the largest international American English daily newspaper. We talked about the differences in IHT between when it was owned by both the Washington Post and the New York Times as opposed to now that it’s only owned by the Times.
I asked him what his most memorable moment in journalism was and he said it was when the Berlin wall fell. He was second-in-command at IHT at the time, and he said it was his biggest story ever.
The Huebner’s apartment is beautiful, on the west side of the city above the Seine. It has two balconies!
Say Fromage!
After leaving the Huebner’s, Lexi, Monica, Suz and I saw the Eiffel Tower and it was SPARKLING!
D.C. peeps: Imagine walking through the streets, looking down and seeing the Washington Monument glimmering like a disco ball?
Or Chicago folks: Imagine catching a glimpse of the John Hancock sparkling like a Christmas tree.
It was a surprise, and beautiful. Here’s a picture that doesn’t do it justice.
Then we spent more than an hour getting home because we decided to take pictures in one of those machines.
