Hopped on a double-decker today and rode around to all the famous sites. Sightseeing wasn’t my intention – I just wanted to ride on the top of the bus, in the front. The first bus took me through Kensington, South Kensington, then Chelsea along Kings Road and Notting Hill.
Then it parked and turned its lights off, so I got on another bus, which went by Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben (the clock), Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, Downing Street (where Tony Blair lives), the Houses of Parliament . . . and lots of other famous places that gave me goose bumps.
I ate dinner with Nancy tonight at a nice little inexpensive restaurant. Turns out we live right near Abbey Road! Yay! (Think: Beatles)
Nancy is great – very patient and smart. She forgave me when I mistook her clothes dryer for the washer, and when I kept confusing the passenger side with the driver’s side of the car. “Other side,” she’d say. Haha! I find it fascinating how she sees the world and the United States as an ex-pat. And we found out we were both in the same part of London today, but didn’t run into each other.
I still have to walk down Portobello Road (think: Angela Lansbury in Bedknobs & Broomsticks,) get my picture taken crossing Abbey Road and see Buckingham Palace.
Now I’m listening to the Mary Poppins soundtrack to get myself psyched up for another day of sightseeing in the rain. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Can you think of anything else I MUST do in London? Unfortunately, the last day to see Romeo & Juliet at the Globe Theatre was last Sunday. Bummer! But I can still go on a tour.
